Kentucky’s crime rate is low compared to the rest of the country. According to the National Institute of Corrections, its property crime rate is 10% lower and its violent crime rate is 33% lower than the national average.

However, it should be noted that law enforcement officers have their hands full in at least one district of Louisville, Kentucky. In 2010, Dr. Andrew Schiller (NeighborhoodScout.com) determined that the E. Breckinridge St. area in Louisville was the 14th most dangerous neighborhood in all of the United States. Its violent crime rate was found to be 106 cases/1,000 people (or `10,600/100,000 people) meaning a person’s chance of falling victim to violence there was 1 in 9. This violent crime rate is quite different from the statewide statistic (242 cases/100,000 people) reported by the FBI in 2010.
