UPS Package From Yemen Contained Explosives

The Associated Press & other news orginizations are reporting that two packages being shipped from Yemen to the U.S., apparently contain explosive materials.  The suspicious packages were found on a UPS cargo plane.  According to UPS, the company is working closely with authorities.   Their statement continues to explain “Because these incidents are still being investigated, we don’t have any further details. We will post updates at this blog and on Twitter at http://twitter.com/ups.”

The discovery has led to the search of three planes and a truck today in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Officials for FedEx have stopped all packages from Yemen as a result of the discovery.

The FedEx company website has posted the following statement:

In cooperation with the FBI, local authorities have confiscated a suspicious package at the FedEx facility in Dubai. The shipment originated in Yemen and as an additional safety measure, FedEx has embargoed all shipments originating from Yemen. The Company is cooperating fully with the authorities on this matter; any additional information regarding this matter must come from the FBI.
